The practice of yoga is one way that we can make amends as it were, threading the needle of our consciousness with the strong enduring fiber of peace and happiness that can once again sew together a life that has been torn apart for one reason or another. This separation comes in many forms, it may be an addition to a substance, the trauma resulting from experiencing a broken home, or it might be an injured body part. We also might be having a bad day for no particular reason that we can think of. Perhaps we just wanting to foster a deeper sense of peace and happiness within for the benefit of doing so. Some time to experience a yoga posture like Parsva Balasana, Threading the Needle, and thinking a little bit more deeply and considerately about connecting our lives to something which binds us all can be a great way to help and heal ourselves of different things that bring distance from ease into our lives. I invite you to give this a chance. To take a leap of faith and to see what happens as a result as you practice this posture, and ponder this line of thinking.
CAUTION: Any neck, shoulder, or back injuries or pain might be aggravated by this posture. They may also be relieved. So please proceed at your own pace, moving into the pose in a way, to a degree, that feels most appropriate for you, and your circumstances.
- To perform Parsva Balasana, Threading the Needle, I invite you to find your way onto all fours with about hips distance between your hands and knees.
- Once there, take the right hand up off the ground, and scoop it under the torso, moving to the left.
- Allow the head to rest right ear side down on the ground. Try to find yourself at a state of ease and rest as you relax into this pose, allowing gravity to assist you in deepening the stretch created in the neck, shoulder, and back.
- If you would like, spend sometime here considering the concept of threading a needle. Why thread a needle in the first place? What represents the thread and the needle? What are we hoping to unite as a result of threading this needle? Perhaps there is something that needs solving in your life in some way, shape, or form. Consider how you might go about doing that. What would be the the needle, the clear path in this situation, which would lead to health and happiness? What would allow you to join or solve this problem, the thread which can bind us with that solution? What resource/s would you need to help you in this situation? And what kind of technique or process will you use to sew or mend yourself to this solution?
- When you are ready, go ahead and switch sides, considering these questions once again or simply enjoying the pose, relaxing and finding yourself drifting back to a sense of ease.
I hope that Parsva Balasana was helpful to you in one shape or form, that you feel more at ease as a result of this practice. Thank you so much for being here today, my friend, for practicing with me! May your day and your week, so on, and so forth be filled with a sense of joining with that sense of ease, health, and happiness! Thank you! God bless! Namaste! Have a great day! Aaron :-)
