Verse six of the Ramayana Chaupai
Janakpuri Raghunandan ayiye nagar nivasi darshan paiye,
O to the city of Janaka Raghunandan went, the citizens got to see him,
Sita ke man bhaya Ram
and to Sita's mind did Ram enter
Ram Siya Ram Siya Ram A jai jai Ram
In the sixth verse we are with Lord Rama, Laksmana, and sage Vishwamitra as they enter the city of Janaka, ruled by the wise and beloved sage king Janaka. Sage Vishwamitra makes the suggestion that the two princes visit for a special purpose. As they enter the city the two princes are met with great awe and reverence by the citizens. It is very obvious that the two youths are extra ordinary like heavenly beings made flesh. This is most accurate as Rama's divine origin is Lord Vishnu, the God of all beauty, truth, and sustaining power. Laksmana's divine origin is the ever loyal divine companion of Lord Vishnu, Sheshanaga, the thousand headed serpent upon which Lord Vishnu sleeps ever blissfully.
Imagine yourself in the role of one of these citizen going about your daily activities, perhaps a bit mindlessly and in a hurry. Suddenly a presence overshadows all your cares, worries, and desires. Nothing else matters in that moment you are in the abode of Vaikuntha, one with the eternal bliss of Lord Vishnu. Gazing at the beautiful youths with strong slender forms and perfect faces, you lose all anxieties, and melt into a feeling of protection and love like you have never known. It is not a matter of being convinced through intellectual discussion. No words are uttered except for greetings, smiles, folded hands, and bowing heads. Your heart melts even more as this gesture is meant just for you. You fall to your knees, dropping everything that had once been so important to you, and bow deeply to this majestic presence of peace and love.
You look up after a time feeling that the presence has moved. The Lord has began to move down the street to Parvati's garden. You can not help but follow in an ecstatic state. There you see the most miraculous meeting. Princes Sita, every bit a matched in beauty and grace as Lord Rama, sees the strong handsome prince with bow and quiver in stately dress with royal ornaments. Lord Rama sees the abode of all beauty, graceful, and with a purity which outshine all darkness. They smile, a knowing gesture, and their eyes melt together as if they have always been one.
