Reflections on verse one of the Ramayana Chaupai. Viewing the holy scriptures as a merely a story is a mistake. Though because our modern world is so inundated with stories it is easy to disregard them as some form of entertainment to keep the mind momentarily occupied. However, holy scriptures hold an entire reality in them that is always alive through you and me and the play of this world. The reason why they are not experienced as such is because they are treated in a superficial way. The words are read but there is only a momentarily connection to holy scripture's deeper significance. Holy scripture is not just for transmitting information or entertainment in the modern sense. Rather a holy scripture is a wealth of life changing experience which is initially seen as a story and the more time one spends with it, the more it begins to change ones reality to the deeper reality described in the holy scriptures from internal to external. This is a revelation of what already is within but fear worry anxiety and all manner of negative force have caused us to forget. Those that have remembered our True reality have written the holy scriptures for those ready to begin the process of remembering.
Verse one of the Ramayana Chaupia
Mangal Bhavan amangal Haari, Drawahu su Dashrath ajir vihari
O one who is the abode of auspiciousness, the one who overcomes inauspiciousness, who is playfully seen in the front yard of Dashratha's palace
Ram Siya Ram Siya Ram A jai jai Ram X2
Why would one read a holy scripture? There is great suffering in the world of names and forms (samsara). Freedom from this world only comes when the soul is liberated from the superficial forms and names. How can this be achieved? One most utilize the very phenomenon that creates the names and forms, belief systems and world to gradually reveal the Truth hidden within. It takes a focused mind to do this. What is focused on? That which is Truly desired beyond all other desires, freedom from desire. The Seeker (anyone that seeks for liberation from suffering) focuses on desiring that which can grant them this deepest desire, finding the conveyance is different for each Seeker according to their needs which may change over time.
This Seeker (the writer of this document) has enjoyed story as a form of entertainment for many years particular to fantastic wonderland hero's journey entertainment which is the reason why this particular holy scripture was chosen, the Ramayana or Ramayana Chaupia. This work on glorifying Rama and His journey is the way of conveyance from worldly attachment (samsara) and the suffer that comes with being its resident. In the first verse we find ourselves in Ayodhya where Lord Rama, the abode of all virtue, abides as a small child. A beautiful baby boy pure, innocent, and joyful playing in his father Dasarath's palace yard. These are the qualities that we need to embrace fully into ourselves in order to find liberation from suffering. It is not enough just to observe them from afar. We must allow them to take up residence in our hearts. Allow this great light to live inside your deepest being. How can one do this? The rest of Lord Rama's story (the Ramayana) will show the earnest devotee/seeker how do do this. Always remember this image of love, innocence, joy, and wonderful Rama in the courtyard of your heart residing in the city of your most virtues nature embodied in Ayodhya as we begin our hero's journey.
