In the first beginners class we will learn to practice: eye movements, neck movements, shoulder movements, diaphragmatic breathing (deep breathing), single and double leg lifts, sarvangasana (shoulder stand), matsyasana (fish pose), and savasana.
There are many systems in physical culture for developing muscles through exercise and repetitive movement. Yoga develops the body as a vehicle of the soul, expanding mental faculties and spiritual capacities. Physical culture exercise focuses on violent movement which leads to the build up of lactic acid and fatigue. The gentle conscious movements of yoga Asana with deep breathing oxygenates the blood, nourishing the body. This alleviates the build up of lactic acid in muscle fiber and the effect of fatigue. Good health is not entirely the development of muscles, but the perfect functioning of all organs under the intelligent control of the mind. Asanas are translated to mean steady pose. However, this is an advanced practice. First we focus on increasing flexibility. The body is only as young as it is flexible. The highest priority is the flexibility of the spine, the house of the nervous system, which is the telegraph of the body. Increasing the flexibility and circulation in the spine we ensure that the nerves get the proper amounts of nutrients and oxygen. The organs and glans and inner mechanisms of the body are maintained through asana practice as opposed to just developing muscle. In the first beginners class we will learn to practice: eye movements, neck movements, shoulder movements, diaphragmatic breathing (deep breathing), single and double leg lifts, sarvangasana (shoulder stand), matsyasana (fish pose), and savasana. Eye movements will strengthen, improve, and relax the almost constantly working involuntary muscles of the eyes as well as resting perception, and relaxing the mind. Neck movements counter slouching and hunching common to sitting for long periods of time releasing tension form the neck and upper back which if unchecked can lead to stiffness, bad posture, and tension headaches. The shoulders are the joints most prone to injury. Yoga shoulder movements strengthen and make flexible these delicate joints. Diaphragmatic breathing (deep breathing) helps us gain the greatest amount of oxygen and nourishment for the body with every inhale, and complete cleansing of stale air with ever exhale. Single and double leg raises will improve the strength in the lower back and abdomen, which are the primary muscles supporting the back in seated meditation pose as well as many asana postures. Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) is beneficial for all body parts, considered the mother of asanas. In particular the thyroid gland is nourished in this asana. The proper functioning of the thyroid ensures health in metabolism, growth, nutrition, and structure of the body. The circulation, respiratory, alimentary, genito-urinary, and nervous systems are in good health if the thyroid is maintained. All glads and organs are healthy when the thyroid thrives. Sarvangasana cleanses the blood, keeps the spine elastic, aids in digestion, and saves the doctor's bill. Matyasana (fish pose) is the counter pose for sarvangasana. Any congestion or cramping experienced in the previous pose is relieved. The thyroid, parathyroid are nourished. The endocrine, pineal, pituitary glands of the brain are massaged and stimulated, improving mental functioning. The neck, back, and waist are strengthened. The dorsal and cervical nerves are nourished. Savasana allows the body and the mind to integrate the full benefits of the yoga practice and be rejuvenated through deep physical, mental, and spiritual relaxation.

AuthorMy name is Aaron Szczurek, and I am making this blog to connect to other people so that we can create a place where we can learn how to be better lovers of our selves. I have been inspired by my Catholic faith, thought leaders, and many wonderful wise people in my life to learn to be a better lover of myself, so that I can be a better lover of those closest to me and the world. The golden rule from the new testament is, "Love your neighbor as yourself." This is the secret to happiness and success in the world. The most powerful message given by God. But how many of us truly love and accept ourselves for just who we are right now, the good and the bad behavior. Louse Hay said it very well, "Love is never outside yourself, it is within. As you love yourself more, you will be more able to love." And the more love that you are able to give, the more that you will be able to receive. Let's help each other on our journey of self love and self fulfillment. Because as Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, and other great men and women have indicated, separation is an illusion, everyone is connected through each other in love as one. Archives
