Hanuman Stands on the Edge
The search party now knows that Sita has been taken to Lanka, an island of demons 100 miles away from the beach where they currently find themselves. They talk among themselves about how it could be possible to transverse such a vast distance. Hanuman is ignorant of his own potential to carry out the impossible task until Jambavan, king of the bears, reminds him of his great power hidden within.
Hanuman Chalisa couplet 2
Ram duut atulit bal dhama
You are the messenger of Sri Ram possessing immense strength.
Anjani putra pavan sut nama
You are the son of Pavan (god of the wind), born of Anjani.
18
Yug Sahastra jojan par bhanu
On your own you dashed upon the sun, which is a fantastic distance of thousands of miles,
Leeyo tahi madhur phal janu
thinking it to be sweet luscious fruit
19
Prabhu mudrika meli mukh mahee
Carrying the Lord Sri Rama's signet ring in your mouth,
Jaladhi langhi gaye achraj nahee
There is hardly any wonder that you leaped across the ocean
In India and for devotees all over the world Hanuman is seen as an infinite source of strength and courage found through devotion to the Lord. God is who gives Hanuman and any being strength and courage to do even the most impossible tasks. Hanuman was born of Anjani (a spirit of clouds and water), the son of Pavan (the wind), and an incarnation of Lord Shiva (the great renovator, destroyer of the Universe, the first Yogi). Hanuman had great power to fly freely and strength to vanquish all manner of difficulty locked deep inside. As a child his foolishness (trying to devour the sun mistaking it for a fruit!) angered the sun god Surya and Indra the chief of the gods. He also played all manner of tricks on Monks and Sages performing their penance. For this his godly powers were sealed away. It was not until Jambavan reminded him of his true identity and his duty to Lord Rama that he was finally able to lift the seal that the gods and holy men had placed on his powers.
Standing on the edge of this vast impossibility, leaping across the ocean, Inspiration came as his faith in the Lord awakened, as did his powers, and he leaped... Like Hanuman, can we awaken our faith in the Lord of our hearts, the Power Hidden deep within infinite Love, and take an impossible Leap of Faith!
Have you ever done something foolish that, unknown to you at the time leading up to the incident, had locked away part of your potential, whether causing us to be afraid or literally punished in some external way, or having a strong feeling of something being taken away like our courage, ability to trust, find joy, etc. Can we find Inspiration to release this bondage of the spirit like Hanuman did? If you haven't found it, keep searching! Faith, devoted, prayer to a higher all Loving power and persistence practice in power of will bring us to the shore of Eternal Love, Peace, and Joy!
