- Thank You Yoga! For Sirsasana! (Headstand) :-)
- Thank You Yoga! For Sirsasana! (4 leg variations) :-)
- Thank You Yoga! For Sirsasana! (4 arm variations) :-)
I am grateful for Fire Log Pose because...
- The opening of the hips is Divine!
- It is a powerful way to warm up to lotus pose.
- It helps me to feel very grounded.
- The back experiences a stretch similar but different to that of the seat forward fold which helps support an overall relief of tension in the lower back area.
- Perhaps the most important is that I feel a greater invitation to breath in a conscious cleansing manner! :-)
CONTRAINDICTIONS and CAUTIONS: Lower back and knee injury
Benefits according to CNY healing arts: Opens and stretches the hips, Stretches the groins and buttocks gently, stimulates the abdominal organs, strengthens legs and calves, calms the mind, and relieves anxiety, tension, and stress.
Technique
- Agnistambhasana or fire log pose is perform by first taking a seated position with legs outstretch.
- Next bend the right leg turning the hip open so that the outside of the leg rest on the surface below and the soul of the foot is open to the left.
- Bend the left leg in a similar manner, and set it on top of the right leg as if you were stacking logs on top of each other.
- It is very helpful to have a nice straightened posture with shoulders rolling to the sides and back, chest projecting slightly forward to deepen the pose.
- If this feels safe in your body inhale, then exhale folding forward with a nice straight back, deepening the pose once again.
- Another variation that can open the hips even further is in folding to the right and left while using the opposite hands to the folding direction to roll open the inner thighs of the opposite legs.
- Practice this pose in such a way that you benefit, opening to the degree that you are able too, practicing with care and kindness rather than the hunger to achieve and prop up the ego.
- Reverse the movements for the other side when ready to do so. Trying to spend the same amount of time on both sides to invite a balance in the mind, body, and spirit.
- After a time in this pose you might want to move into Lotus position if you know it.
- Whether moving into lotus position or not resting in a standard straight legged forward fold can be a good way to settle the knees back in place if they feel at all disturbed as well as giving your legs a counter movement to the hip opening, balancing out the experience.
- Rest in Savasana or some other resting pose or continue on with the rest of your sequence. Take some time to be grateful for your body carrying you through the practice, the ground for supporting you, and the vital breathes facilitation of this experience as well as all others. :-)
