For the first pose I would like to introduce this year, I thought that balasana or child's pose might be appropriate. In allot of ways this pose is about new beginnings, reminding us that as we move into balasana, we can begin again, to go back to our childhood in some ways.
To perform balasana, I first sit on my heals with the knees bent, then I project my arms forward. I press the palms to the ground, and come onto all fours in a table top like position. Once there, I push my bottom back until it is resting on my heels once again. I either stretch my arms out before me or bring them to my sides, fingers pointing back. The out stretched arms might be uncomfortable in shoulders, feel your way through the movement. Do what you feel is most appropriate for you. Finally, I rest my forehead on the ground.
I invite you to think about what it means to you to be a child while in this posture. See if maybe it is possible to bring some of the positive feelings into you everyday life. And, if there are any negative feelings, why those might be arising, and how you might move those out of your life when you see them forming. This is your time to experiment, to observe, to be present for yourself, and to make a conscious decision to move in the direction of health and happiness. I hope that you have a wonderful day, my friend, and that it brings with it the joy of surprise and hopeful new beginnings! Peace, Love, and Blessings to you! Aaron :-)
