In Savasana or Corpse pose we learn to be as still as a corpse in body and liberated from the anxieties of the mind. I can find myself at peace in the midst of this great lose only because I have some way to practice letting go of the desire to see life happen in a certain way. I can choose to surrender to the way things are unfolding around me and find peace, or hold on to feelings and experiences that are no longer a part of the present by paying the price in great suffering. I am experiencing both, suffering at times, and peace at others, though, with practicing yoga and letting go, peace flows into this space created in my consciousness much more than suffering.
Savasana
Performing Savasana is very simple. Lay flat on your back with the legs straight or with a pillow under the knees to alleviate lower back pain. Arms are beside the body with either palms up or down. This can be done on any surface that you feel comfortable and safe on. If you are on a bed or couch, you may be more likely to fall asleep, and this is fine if that is your goal.
Allow yourself to feel at ease, relax all tension away from the body and mind. I invite you to put aside all concerns, plans, anxieties, and worries. They maybe there waiting for you after the practice if you choose to pick them back up, but while you are here, practicing, explore the possibility of letting them go.
You might visualize a sky with clouds. I invite you to connect yourself, your self image to the sky that is behind those clouds, and the clouds to experiences, thoughts, sensations, peoples, places, and things. The clouds drift though the sky sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, marching onward through the movements of the incarnate life, changing form slightly, sometimes drastically, then fading away into the elements from which they were formed. On and on clouds are born, move through you, the sky, and fade away. You are still here despite this phenomenon and will continue to be. Loosen your grip if you feel a fear of lose and death right now, there is no such thing, nothing is final, there are only the changing of forms, moving from one state to another.
Take courage in knowing that the love that you have shared, the thankfulness, the joy and happiness, peace are the true elements from which we are all formed, and are given awareness, life, and consciousness to be able to experience. Love and connection is the ever present sky, you are love and connection, you have felt the truth of this when that one that you loved was with you because they reveled your true nature to you, and you to them. This is why we watch the clouds, to remember who we are, to remind others who they are. As long as we feel love in our hearts we know the truth, there is no death or lose or fading with the truth of who we are. We are never alone or unloved.
Easy breath in, easy breath out. I invite you to take sometime to simply explore your inner peace through the breath, breathing in and out by a count starting with 15. Inhaling 15, and exhaling 15, inhaling 14, and exhaling 14, so on and so forth. If you ever lose count or reach 1, you may start over from 15. I will let you know when it may be time to move to another state. ….........................
When you are ready to do so begin to bring your state into a more active one, wiggling fingers and toes, stretching body parts as would feel good and comfortable for you when emerging from a rest. I invite you to roll onto a preferred side, take an easy breath in and out, then push yourself up into a seated position.
Draw your awareness into you spine, perhaps rolling forward on your sit bones in order to come to a nice straight tall back. If you would like, press your hands to heart center, bow your head, and say a word that means my inner light honors your inner light, that word would be “Namaste.” Thank you so much for practicing with me today! God bless you and have a great day! May the light of Love greet you everywhere upon your way! Aaron :-)
