it is good to stop and allow things to happen, things to flow naturally as they would when it is obvious that efforts on our own part is just prolonging our suffering, and perhaps that of those around us. So won't you join me my friend for this adventure into noticing when it is time to rest, for taking pause for recovery, health, and healing.
Here are some times when I have found this may apply...
- One of the most obvious I believe is when I experience a physiological illness, such as what is inspiring this article in the first place.
- Mental fatigue and negative emotions.
- Difficulties in work and studies.
- Trouble in relationships.
- Not feeling nourished from food.
- Anything that does not help us find a feeling of peace in our lives is something worth examining. Perhaps there is a way to improve the energy we are experiencing if we take a moment of pause, a moment to allow things to reveal themselves as there are, rather than as we think we experience them when clouded by mental and emotional agitations. You might think of this as the difference between a stormy sky full of dark clouds and that of a clear blue sky.
Here are some steps that I have found helpful to me in addressing the different sickness, illness, and troubles that come up in my life...
- Do not be afraid to TAKE A BREAK: This will likely be my only “work” for today. I have learned that over the years it is better to take a complete break as much as possible and allow my body to heal itself before my stubbornness in trying to deny my illness makes the illness worse. I understand that we have responsibilities in our lives to fulfill that might not seem like they allow for sick days, but I have found that the longer an illness or problem is allowed to go unaddressed in my life the more so my work, studies, relationships suffer as I can only be as present as my health and humility allow me to be.
- Address this sooner than later: Noticing there is a problem sooner than later will prevent the escalation of the illness or problem, and allow the healing process to initiate. I believe that the illness or disruption to one's peace, etc is much like a cloud in the sky forming from an aggravation of the atmosphere to eventually fade away over time returning the atmosphere to clear and calm. However, I have witnessed myself ignoring this cloud or even becoming transfixed on this irritation in the past, and when either of these occur the storm of aggravation, the illness escalates if I continue to remain ignorant or stubborn.
- Take steps to heal from the illness, or negative experience: I believe that the sooner I notice that I am sick and take time out of my usual activities...
- to rest, to sleep,
- Perhaps meditation is a path to healing from physical illness as well as other troubles. I believe that it is worth a try, calm the mind, and get out of the way of the body's natural healing abilities. It is worth a try especially when you feel like crap. What do you have to lose! :-)
- If you have a pet, like I have a wonderful little kittie, you might spend some time in quiet appreciation of this relationship. Take some time to pet them, allow them to rest on your lap, or however it is that you spend time with you precious pet. :-)
- Be creative, be safe, and be sensitive to what is going on within and without
- allow and appreciate healing when it comes to you, my friend,
- be patient and faithful doing what you can and
- accept help from others gratitude and humility
