The Journey into the Forest of Demons
The three companions first traveled across the sacred Ganga river with the help of one of Ayodhya's loyal retainers, and then found themselves traveling through the forest of demons. They made a simple thatched hut to live in and enjoyed a harmonious life in nature, often having having the fellowship of various animals. This Peace came to forest of demons as a result of the protection that Sri Rama, Laksman, and Mother Sita offered. Many Rishis or holy men, monks that had previous been terrorized by demons were served by Sri Rama and Laksman in the form of demon exorcism. The purifying power of Rama and his group would not be overlooked forever though. Eventually, a demon princess in Ravana's court heard of Rama's deeds and handsomeness. Shurpanakha visits Sri Rama's small hut and tries to seduce him, enraged when refuses her because he is already married, she attacks, and Laksman, Rama's ever protector, cuts off her nose. Returning to Ravana, Shurpanakha convinces Ravana's lustful nature that Sita is a worthy prize.
Practice in Gratitude for Peace, Santosha, Success, and Simplicity
Sri Rama and his companions enjoyed a very bliss time in life after they made home for themselves in the forest of demons, doing doing allot of good, fulfilling the requests of terrorized Rishis, exorcising demons, and living in harmony with nature. But, as Sri Rama's fame grew it was time the greater task in defeated Ravana, the King of the Demons. Although this was much needed for the good of all beings, it would disrupt the Santosha, Success, and Simplicity that Sri Rama had found in the forest.
